About — End of the Road Farm & Studio
Some names just fit.
End of the Road Farm & Studio started the way most good things do — by accident, and then on purpose. The road to our farm in Ethelsville, Alabama dead-ends right at our property line. There's no shortcut, no through traffic, no passing through. If you end up here, you meant to come.
That's the spirit behind everything we make.
I'm Heather Richardson, a ceramic artist and farmer working out of a studio on our family farm in west Alabama. Every piece of pottery that leaves this studio — every mug, bowl, vase, and planter — is wheel-thrown or hand-built by me, one at a time, in stoneware clay. I glaze and fire each piece here on the farm. No production line, no shortcuts.
The work is slow by design. Stoneware is dense and durable, built for everyday use, not a shelf. My pieces are meant to be held, used, washed, and used again. The clay body stays natural and unglazed where it makes sense — you'll feel the texture of the earth in your hands. Where I do glaze, I reach for colors that feel grounded: deep blue, turquoise, warm yellow, white, earthy green.
We also raise grass-fed, grass-finished beef on this land, grow fruits and vegetables, and make small-batch jams, pickles, and soaps. The farm and the studio feed each other — same values, same soil.
If you're looking for something made by a real person, in a real place, that will last — you've come to the right end of the road.
The studio is located in Ethelsville, Alabama. We ship nationwide through our online store and wholesale through Faire.
